Chiau-Syuan Chai, geb. 1996 in Taipei, Taiwan, lebt seit 2020 im Hamburg und studiert Malerei im Master an der HFBK Hamburg. Chai beschäftigt sich mit der Farbbeziehung zwischen Gebäuden und dem öffentlichen Lebensraum der Stadtbewohner. Sie beobachtet die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen der Wahrnehmung der Bewohner und den zeitgenössischen Gebäuden und versucht das Konzept vom Zuhause und Haus durch Farbe und vereinfachte Form einzufangen.
Sie setzt sich in ihren Arbeiten, die von der Stadtlandschaft inspiriert sind, anhand der Historie der Konzept-Kunst und des Minimalismus auseinander. Durch die Praxis mit großformatiger Papiermalerei und Holzobjekten, auf welchen Farb-Codes aus ihrer langfristigen Farbsammlung verwendet werden, zeigt sie ihre Beobachtungen des Images von Alltag.
Chiau-Syuan Chai, born in 1996 in Taipei, Taiwan, has lived in Hamburg since 2020 and is studying painting in the master’s program at the HFBK Hamburg. Chai is concerned with the color relationship between buildings and the public living space of urban residents. She observes the interrelationships between residents‘ perceptions and contemporary buildings, and tries to capture the concept of home and house through color and simplified form.
She explores the history of conceptual art and minimalism in her works inspired by the urban landscape. Through the practice of large-scale paper painting and wooden objects, on which color codes from her long-term color collection are used, she shows her observations of the image of everyday life.
