You are you, but you are also me. The world is one‘. Energy is passed on, accumulated and changed. People, places, things, they are all the same. They want to tell their own stories. We try to enter into dialogue with this invisible energy.
Noriko Mazda Kura und Lucia Bartl treten in ihrer Video/Photoarbeit und Installation ‚Beyond the dialogue‘ in Verbindung mit den sehr konträren Orten. Das verbindende Element ist ein langes Stück Stoff, inspiriert von einer„Shimenawa“. In Japan steht sie für die Verbindung zwischen dem Irdischen und den Göttlichen. Als schamanisches Objekt verwendet Mazda Kura dieses Symbol als verbindendes Element zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart und „knüpft“ so einen Dialog, der dort weitergeht, wo die Worte nicht mehr greifen.
Diese Verbindung wird im Bild des Friedhofs und des trostlosen Parkplatzes vor einer abgebrannten Industriehalle verdeutlicht. Die beiden Künstlerinnen zeigen, dass sich trotz Tod und Vernichtung, die Energie verwandelt und der Ort mit uns in Verbindung treten kann. Mit Gesang, Tanz und Farben der Performance Mazda Kuras und dem ästhetischen Blick Bartls, verleiht es den Schauplätzen wieder Leben und findet im Kreis das Symbol der Verwandlung im Zyklus der Energie.
Noriko Mazda Kura and Lucia Bartl connect with the very contrary places in their video/photo work and installation ‚Beyond the dialogue‘. The connecting element is a long piece of cloth, inspired by a „Shimenawa“. In Japan it represents the connection between the earthly and the divine. As a shamanic object, Mazda Kura uses this symbol as a connecting element between the past and the present, „weaving“ a dialogue that continues where words no longer reach.
This connection is made clear in the image of the cemetery and the desolate parking lot in front of a burned down industrial hall. The two artists show that despite death and destruction, the energy transforms and the place can connect with us. With song, dance and colors of Mazda Kura’s performance and Bartl’s aesthetic gaze, it gives life back to the sites and finds in the circle the symbol of transformation in the cycle of energy.
Japanese artist Noriko Mazda Kura and German photographer and filmmaker Lucia Bartl have been working as a duo on various art projects since 2020. Mazda Kura born in Nagasaki, Japan in 1985, studied at Tama Art Univers in Tokyo until 2011, where she received her master’s degree in painting. She has been living in Germany with her family since 2016. Here she works as a freelance artist. Together with Lucia Bartl, born in 1984 in Erding near Munich, she shared a studio in the Rothenburgsort district of Hamburg between 2019 and 2021.
Lucia Bartl studied photography in Vienna and then went to Paris between 2010 and 2015. She works as a freelance photographer and artist in Hamburg. The collaboration with Noriko first came about through the documentation of a live performance in 2020, before developing into the joint project „Beyond the dialog“, on which both artists have been working since mid-2021.
